Nightshade Books was kind enough to commission me to make a cover for Michael J. Martinez's The Enceladus Crisis.
It was a great experience to say the least. I had the opportunity to work with a great editor and create something that lived in the world of both science fiction and historical illustration. So I thought I would post some of the workflow from that project since it has now been released.
Sent colored draft comps
More b&w comps, clearing out the mid-ground and bringing the view farther back.
These were the last two edits. The eventual titling and parchment background would end up covering the majority of the top of the page, so the scene had to be brought down and fit accordingly.
